Inspiration to write blog is not always there. In the past 2 weeks, dust in the air is so dense that it seems that it has stopped my inspiration.

Test at the gardening project in Nefrelaye

We have started a project of gardening in the village in Nefrelaye 4 years ago. The water for the project is pumped in two basins from a water well 140 meters deep. The pump is powered with solar panels and works only when the sun is on. The volume of water pumped varies with the strength of the sun. The villagers (mainly women) watered the plants in the morning and in the evening. The night comes with basins, which are not full. Only half of the fenced space is used for lack of water.

We are making a trial by adding batteries to the system. The panels load the batteries and those batteries can insure that water is pumped even when there is a lack or no sun.

Full basins with the batteries used in the system

It is always nice to see a green zone in the middle of a dry area.

In Nefrelaye, women are always ready to sell something. On the left photo a plastic bucket with cakes and on the right photo a woman is selling small amount of fertilizer.

We will test the system for a few days then if it works, we will have to look for funds to implement it in Nefrelaye.

Other test for watering young trees

We are trying in our office another watering system for trees. For this, we just use a medical drip system fit to a 20 liters plastic container. We have almost 200 cashew nuts trees which we need to water by hand in our farm in Mogobasso. If the system works, we will save a lot of water and a lot of work for a minimum investment.

Proverbs of the week

If you close your eyes to facts, you will learn through accidents

Si vous fermez les yeux sur les faits, vous apprendrez à travers des accidents

Return to old watering holes for more than water; friends and dreams are there to meet you

Retournez aux vieux point d’eau pour plus que l’eau; amis et rêves sont là pour vous rencontrer

Have a good week,
