It has been a very busy week with many trips to the villages with Marie Paule et Didier from A Petits Pas. APP supports projects in 4 villages and many students at the LAP.

Since the 2 containers we sent in February have finally arrived in Bobo Dioulasso, the coming week will also be very active.

Situation in Burkina

No change on the security front, terrorist attacks are still happening. On the political side, a nominated parliament was put in place. The military nominated people and each region did the same. For the people coming from the region it is not really clear how they got nominated.

A lot of military people are also nominated to this assembly.

People are getting impatient to see some changes on the security front.

Focus on gardening

Burkina has  a lot of sun but no water during almost 8 months in a year.

  • Gardening project in Nefrelaye

We have helped to set up a gardening project in this village for 63 women.

The one and a half hectare is an oasis of green in the middle of the dry fields

Each of the women has 200 square meters. She will get between 100 and 150 euro per year revenue from the sales of her vegetables. She will also have vegetables for the family which makes her diet a lot healthier. The women have no difficulty selling the vegetables in the nearby villages.

There are 2 water wells equipped with a downhole pump powered by solar panels. The water is pumped in 2 basins and women come to get the water with their watering can

This project was funded by “A Petits Pas’” (France)

  • Gardening at the LAP

The LAP has 6 vegetables gardens. Almost all the production of those gardens is used in the meals of the students.

Two of the gardens are equipped with a drip irrigation system.

Each garden is cultivated 3 times during the school year. Four of the gardens have a surface of 625m² and 2 have 1.250 m²

The production of vegetables is only a small part of what is needed to feed the 302 students we have at the LAP

Bees are coming to drink along the drip irrigation system. Today, water for the gardens is coming from the water towers we have at the LAP.

The garden’s infrastructure was funded by “ASAP’’ and ‘’APP”.

In both projects the water comes from very expensive drilled wells equipped with a solar powered pump. The flow rate of those wells varies between 4 and 8 m³/h. This is not enough to be able to water big fields.
