Price of bread in Burkina

The bakers association and the government have agreed not to increase the price of the bread. Instead they will decrease the weight of the “miche” from 200g to 160g. I understand that this way of doing things is also happening in Europe and in the US (smaller volume for the same price).

Some news from the LAP

It is the end of the school year. Students not from an exam year have gone back to their families last Friday.

This year there are 3 classes passing an exam: 4th year students pass the BEPC, 6th year pass the BEP Agricole and the 8th year will pass the BAC PRO Agricole.

The BEPC exam is still under way. Wedo have the results of the BEP where 24 out 27 students got their exam, a very good result. The BAC PRO exam will start only on June 20th.

The students of the 7th year passed the exam for their driving licence, 13 out 22 got it the first time. The 9 who did not it will have another try next week.

Gardens at the LAP

At the LAP we have 9 students coming from refugees families. June 20th is world refugees’ day. If you wish, you can help them by making a donation.

For US and UK residents you can go to the website from globalgiving.

The 7th year coming back to the LAP from Bobo Dioulasso after their driving test in the vehicle in which they pass the test: a truck!!!!

Students of the 5th and 7th year have to do an internship of 2,5 months during the school vacation. Parents do not like this since it means less manpower for the work in their fields. The 5th years are doing the training at the LAP and the 2 farms of ASAP. Since, besides their internship subject, they are helping us take care of the culture in the fields, they get food and are also receiving an allowance at the end of the training.

The internship of the 7th year students is taking place in farms or institutes not linked with the LAP. For them they have to find their own resources for transport and food since they often do not get supported by the structure where they are doing their internship. That is real life… For some of the students who have been for a long time under the wing of ASAP it is a real shock!

Honey harvest 2022

In 2022 the volume of harvested honey was lower than expected. We bought 5.800 kg when we were expecting about 8.000 kg. We were probably too optimistic since many hives were only installed in the first quarter of 2022, but also flowers on fruit trees were not as many as last year.

Sayings of the week

“Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” – Proverbs 16:24

“Handle a book as a bee does a flower, extract its sweetness but do not damage it.” – John Muir

Until next week.
