Second week of this trip in Burkina Faso. Still a lot of rain. Confinement? Not really heard about it here. People are going their merry way without masks and without real distancing.
With Eugénie we look a bit like paranoid people wanting to keep our distance and wearing masks.
News about the personnel of the office in Bobo Dioulasso
There are 3 people working for the production of soaps and honey, 2 guards and 4 staff.
Odile the director, Serge the commercial person, Mariam projects supervisor and Félicité executive secretary.
Odile had a baby girl at the beginning of our visit. That same week Serge went to visit his mother in Ouagadougou where he was mugged taking him out of the office for a few days. That same week again the one year old boy of Mariam poured boiling water over his face and chest, which took her out of the office as well. Since not all of this was bad news, I do not think that I am the one bringing bad luck…..?
In the office we were only Felicité and myself for a few days. Now we are back to normal with Serge already at a fair with our products and the son of Mariam seems to be recuperating well. Only time will tell regarding the scars.
It is good that we are all capable of multitasking and can fill in for some of the work of others.
News about the LAP
At the start up of this new school year we had unexpected surprises with the non-return of some of the 5th– and 7th year students.
After investigation we found out that some older students who had already graduated were giving a very bad image of the agricultural diploma. These are students now in their village and who do not know what to do next while others who have the same diploma are following their studies in universities. All students were warned 2 years before graduating that they had to take care of themselves after graduation. ASAP would help them with advice and guidance but they had to make their own steps for further education. These particular students did not believe us and are still at home doing nothing and are bad mouthing the diploma now.
The consequence being that several students decided not to come back to the LAP. The parents tried to discuss with the students, but they told us that they did not have enough information to contradict them. We will edit a document with all the possibilities for students achieving a diploma from the LAP.
One of the negative points as looked by the students is that they can only apply for civil servant job for a limited number of sectors. We believe this is a positive point, taking into account the little openings at the state level.
We do not worry too much about this situation. But it is a good warning that we have to spend more time to prepare the students for the after LAP.
